Release date : May 2010
Review : CD

“Reach For The Sun” is the full length debut album of the emo band The Dangerous Summer. This foursome from Maryland, USA was formed in 2006 and soon released an EP with the title “There Is No Such Thing As Science”, which drew the attention of Hopeless Records.

After signing with Hopeless Records, The Dangerous Summer re-released their EP, now with the title If You Could Only Keep Me Alive and with new songs added. The full length album Reach For The Sun already saw the light in 2009 in the USA, but is now made available in Europe. And I am very pleased that this album finally reached me, because The Dangerous Summer are a very promising band for the future and Reach For The Sun is a magnificent debut album. This is Emo at it’s best. Accessible melodies, catchy tunes, the expressive voice of singer/ bass player AJ Perdomo and all of these ingredients wrapped with the necessary dose of vulnerability. These elements make the song material interesting and intriguing. You won’t have difficulties to keep your attention focused. You want a reference, I’ll give you one: The Dangerous Summer make excellent emo music in the good tradition of Jimmy Eat World.

Reach For The Sun contains 11 songs and has a playing time of 41 minutes. Highlights of the album are the opening track and first single “Where I Want To Be”, “Settle Down”, “Symmetry”, “Surfaced”, “A Space To Grow”, “The Permanent Rain” and “This Is War”. The band is currently writing their second full length album which will be released in 2011. But hopefully, The Dangerous Summer will not wait untill 2011 to cross the ocean to come play in Europe.

85/100
