Band : Ufomammut Eve is heavy in the way only Ufomammut can manage, it’s spaced out and trippy, superbly written and produced, and just enough different than their previous efforts that it warrants plenty of attention in its own right. With an open mind and an uncanny sense for progress and originality, one can do great things. This Italian trio prove this theory once again on this disc. They follow their own path, break all the rules and manage to put together a different level of heavy that registers in the mind as well as the ears. Poia, Urlo and Vita have lived up to their promise and delivered “Eve”, a 45-minute song, divided in five main movements, that not only enthrals the listener, but makes time absolutely fly by while listening to it. The music on this album combines all the elements that have made up the Ufomammut sound since their first album, Expect nothing but bludgeoning, lurching paces with riffing that sometimes takes a direct pummelling approach while at other times the guitars provide atmospheric murmurings and background noise for the throbbing bass lines. Ufomammut are one of those bands who have actually made something already extreme more extreme. Ufomammut will play at Sojo's on Thursday May 20th with Pektop as support act. 95/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
