Review: CD/MCD

The Swedish sweeties of Bestial Mockery did start this band about fifteen years ago. Throughout the years, they did release several splendid demos and albums (as well as some splits) and they were able to perform all over the world.

This review isn’t about a new album, yet the re-release of their official 2002-debut (or is a mini??? – the duration is less than half an hour), with new artwork; often considered the band’s finest and most intense album to date. And maybe that might be correct. By the way, there also was a so-called demo in 1997 with a few tracks that do also appear on this recording.
The ten (short) tracks on the album bring a rough and sleazy form of Old Skool Thrash-injected Black Metal with a right-in-your-face mentality. It does sound rawer than their later efforts, but it clearly is the same band. The hateful and warlike evocations of blasphemy have been inspired by the earliest works of Bathory and Bulldozer, yet they do come with an own definition of diabolical fury and anger. The instrumentation isn’t built upon hyper-technical experiments, and the sound hasn’t been cleaned-up with high-technological machinery; on the contrary, these pure hymns are as bestial and chainsawing as they are honest.
