Review: CD
Dinner Auf Uranos are a German band that recently rose from the ashes of Nocte Obducta, one of the most experimental and progressive Black Metal acts from Germany. For a part, Dinner Auf Uranos go on in the very same vein, yet at the same time it is completely different too.
The latter has to do with the complete absence of Black Metal elements. No blackish screams, no Nordic-oriented riffs; this material has nothing to do with any form of blasphemy or misanthropy.
The basic comparisons with Nocte Obducta are the progressive and avant-garde elements. Like their former band, the members of Dinner Auf Uranos are pretty experimental in instrumental approach. Not the vocals, which are warm and melodic yet not too ‘clean’. The dark and atmospheric songs balance on the edge between Post-Rock and Prog Metal, unifying emotions with energetics, and more than once the whole trespasses the border with the Gothic-oriented Rock / Metal-scene. Like the album’s lyrical concept (all in German, by the way), the whole sounds somewhat trippy and psychotropic, yet it does maintain a well-thought equilibrium between fragility and bravery.
50 Sommer – 50 Winter isn’t an easy-listening recording, and it will take some time, and many times of listening, to capture the rather complex totality, so I recommend to listen before stealing or buying.
The latter has also to do with the duration of the tracks: between one minute and a half, and over twenty two minutes…
Total duration: 45:26 minutes.
