Band : Grey This Hamburg based German quartet was formed in mid 2008 after the demise of singer Jakub Murawski's band Pignation and guitarist Jorg Wöckener's band Under Siege. Together with former Cities Of Sleep (which departed from the world of active bands in 2005) drummer/ additional vocalist Rene “Pablo” Pablotzki and bassist Marco Czarkowski (whose previous connections in the music scene remain an unknown to me) they set out to create the massive hybrid wall of Groove Metal and MathCore music with wall-to-wall screamed vocals, that can now be witnessed on this, their debut release. The eight scorching tracks were recorded during December and late March of last winter by the band's bassist at the Lynn Aloysound studio, except for the drums, which were done at SU2 Studio by Phil Hillen, whom also mixed and mastered the album there during April. In between, the band went on their first short tour (only 7 days, but they enjoyed every minute of that week), and in June they found a dream-come-true when they signed to Bastardized! As a first result, the 32-minute album is now available on a quality label which has a habit of promoting the type of material the band plays! As suggested on the label's website, Grey comes strongly recommended to fans of Botch, Coalesce, and Architects, a recommendation I hereby support full-heartedly. Seen as this type of music has always found a fan in me, seen as the aforementioned comparison bands have always been in my favourites list, seen as I love what this band does, period...I am therefore adding Who Needs You to my personal year-lists. Check the song (full-length) “Through The Roof, Underground” at myspace.com/whoneedsyou for size. If you like/love, consider buying yourself the album. Personally, I'm gonna try and get a copy of the vinyl edition, released through Ampire Records! 98/100 Tony. |
