The history of Dagoba starts in September 2000 when then-20-year-old Shawter (vocals) decided to clean up the line-up of his old band due to the lack of motivation from his partners. He teamed up with Franky (drums), Werther (bass), and Izakar (guitar) and together (inspired by mutual favorite bands like machine head, pantera and fear factory, the four dedicated and creative musicians began writing songs and building a backbone for Dagoba. Not much later in November 2001, their first 6-tracks EP was released and acclaimed by the European press.
Now the band released another album in their typical metal style combining groove-, nu- and death metal. Combining this formula with their latest album, you begin to understand why this band has so quickly risen and still grows bigger and bigger from the underground. With machine-like drums, crushing guitars, pounding bass, powerful vocals, and a touch of electronics, the latest album (called Poseidon) picks up where the previous album stopped.
Brutal tunes and tones, just everything was brutal about the previous album (like with the new) but this time the band has chosen for a slightly more commercial sound making it more variated and more appealing for more than just their ordinary fans. To keep it even more interesting, the band has chosen for a kind of “pirates and sailors” theme and added here and there some small instrumental theme songs witch in turn get followed up with some more “calmer” songs making it fun for other people to listen to it, but still not open for everyone. You can like it or hate it, but it is a nice change from other bands that in some way all sound the same these days.

86/100
