Review: CD
Obszön Geschöpf are a project by Remzi Kelleci, with four albums on their blablagraphy, Yell Of Fright (2003), Son Of Evil (2004), Tomb Of The Dead (2005) and Erection Body Mutilated (2009). With session members Yann Irbah (g) and Olivier Donze (b), as well as producer Andy Classen himself, who also contributed as additional guitar player, Remzi recorded a new Obszön Geschöpf-album, Symphony Of Decay. And like any former release (and as the titles suggest), this isn’t sweet, beautiful stuff for our geriatric neighbours.
Symphony Of Decay brings a symbiosis of some extremer directions: Industrial Thrash / Death Metal, Power-Electronic Ambient and Groove Metal, injected with bizarre elements, samples, electronics, additional sounds etc. It sounds somewhat psychotic and horrific, it has something freaky, almost perverse.
A few times it bores the sh*t out of me – damn, sometimes this stuff stinks – but more than once I am really impressed by certain parts. Personally I prefer the harsher, more horrific songs, yet I’m sure fans of, for example, KMFDM, Die Krupps or Ministry at the one hand, or Rammstein / Clawfinger / Slipknot / Fear Factory at the other, will appreciate some (several) pieces too.
Unusual and slightly uncomfortable…
71/100
