One of Sweden’s most mysterious entities must be The Way Of Purity. First of all the members’ alter egos do not correspond to any known name. The (extremely brutal) vocals are done by a female grunter, DeadGirl Betty (a few times, she also uses her melodic voice), the drummer, for example, is called Wallofdeath, etc.
Secondly, the band uses a quite original lyrical approach. The Way Of Purity spread the message of (a) God yet seen through the inspirational animal life. This textual concept and the ultra-aggressive performance aim to give the band salvation by becoming the hand of God to find the real way of purity (cf. bio)…
Crosscore lasts for something less than half an hour; that’s why I define it as a mini-album, yet thirty minutes are plenty in this case. Not because it bores me, or because it annoys me. The ‘problem’ might be the violently mechanical sound. It’s like a sonic ten-track punishment with an industrialised torture-mechanism…
But… getting rid of the idea that this album hurts when it comes to the production, Crosscore isn’t so bad. The focus lies on technical riffs, eclectic breaks and uncomfortable changes in speed, an aggressive rhythm section with a hammering tempo, and those guttural grunts by Fraulein Betty. The album sounds modern, and tracks like The Rise Of Noah, with electronic and Modern Metal elements, will please a bright audience, I’m sure.
The album also includes a well-acceptable version of Christian Death’s Deathwish
