Band : Jayce Landberg This is only the second release by Jayce, and what a cracker album this is. Not only is he a prolific songwriter, he's also a great if not virtuoso guitar player. Just listen to track n° 10 on this album "Abduction". Anyone who's been around long enough to remember the rise to stardom of Van Halen will be instantly reminded of the track "Evolution" on Van Halen's debut album. This is equally good. All songs are more ore less guitar orientated, as might be expected, but what is lacking a bit is the consistency. I mean you've got a combination of ballads - just listen to "The Thorns", which is carried solely by a piano and the vocals, and compare this to the previous track "The Bitch Is Back". I don't know why two such different styles were mixed on one album. Now in the old days of vinyl he might have gotten away with this, in that he could have put all songs style "The Bitch Is Back" on one side, and the others on the other side, but in this modern era of CD this cannot be done of course. To sum it all up : it's clear that Jayce can, due to his ability to play guitar as well as piano, a great knowledge of both classical and rock music, knowledge that enables him to write some great rocking pieces, as well as ballads. 78/100 Erik Morren. |
