Band : Obskuria The collaboration between Dragonwyck guitarplayer Tom Brehm and Peruvian Anarcho Punk Psych La Ira De Dios known as Obskuria began back in 2008 when this bunch released their first album The Discovery Of Obskuria. Burning Sea Of Green is my second meeting with this interesting project, and this is one of those records that might take a while to fully appreciate. But what Obskuria offer the listener with this release is an thrilling journey into psychedelic soundscapes, mixing old and new sorts of music. The album's strong force is to provide a mixture that gives a feeling of harmony, yet with a psychedelic and kraut metallic edge, but most important, almost impossible to predict. The cover version of Slayer’s “Black Magic” is done Obskuria style and they have rearranged it garage cleverly. Sounding like these guys set up in the studio and just plugged in and played, putting all overproduced elements aside, making Burning Sea Of Green more raw and powerful, giving it the live organic vibe. If I have to be critical I'd say that some female vocal parts are just a little too flat and some songs could be just a little longer, I believe that would have given the record a more jamming feeling. 85/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
