CD REVIEW Mose Giganticus

Band: Mose Giganticus
Title: Gift Horse
Label: Relapse Records
Distribution: Rough Trade Benelux.
Release date: July 20th 2010
Review: MCD

Mose Giganticus are the brainchild of Philadelphia’s Matt Garfield. The Relapse-debut Gift Horse, with very nice, original artwork, lasts for almost half an hour.
Opener Last Resort makes sure Mose Giganticus aren’t a Relapse-roostered formation – no Hardcore, Grindcore, Punk, Tech-Death or Sludge this time. The song is a rather harmonious and epic mixture of punkish Metal, old school Hard Rock and melodic Doom, up-tempo and gigantic at the same time. The Left Path is heavier, but floats on within the very same spheres. What I hear is power, melody and timelessness. From time to time, the band also adds keyboards, sometimes the electronic way, within the thrashing songs, as well as some progressiveness (example: the first moments on Doom-hymn Days Of Yore).
Not a typical Relapse-release, and because of its specific, unique approach not that strange this band was signed to Relapse either… What a confusion…

75/100
