Review : CD

Eight Hundred Miles is nine well penned heavy rocking tunes with emphasis on hooks, melody and soul. Even though most of the album is wrapped up in a contemporary sound Blowback contains a vintage vibe.. Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk, Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath are obviously major keystones in this band's approach, considering the direct riffarama structure of many of these songs.
“The only thing I have” starts out the cd in full balls-out mode. Solid, acoustic and fast-paced ,”The big black hole” reminds me of one of the quicker numbers from the self-titled Dexter Jones’ Circus Orchestra album .“No soul ” is a great slow-paced signature song with a up-tempo chorus and a fine harp-solo that will pull you in. “Dead mans blues” is full of smoke and attitude. Most recommendable tracks are “Butterfly” which is a mid-tempo track with lots of great vocal harmonies and “Away from the planet” with very good Hendrix -like guitar wah wah solos This quartet is inspired by the good old days where song writing was the most important ingredient for making an album
Anyone who likes this style of music should love it, as the hooks, melody and soul on this album are hard to resist.
