Bullet for My Valentine is a Welsh metal core band from the U.K. and was formed in 1998. The band is composed of Matt Tuck (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Michael Paget (lead guitar), Jason James (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Michael Thomas (drums). They were formed under the name “Jeff Killed John” and started their music career as a cover band playing songs by Nirvana, Metallica,…. And they got a record deal with Sony for 5 albums.
Although formed in 1998, it wasn’t until 2003 the band broke through with their debut album called “The Poison”. This got them a lot of attention from new made fans and press. But since than until now, the band has been through a big growth in musicianship and style.
I admit I missed their second album so I can’t be very objective, but due to the fact I missed that one I can see the big difference between then and now. The band has chosen to go for a more melodic direction (with the necessary shred licks and riffs everybody expects these days), than the “we have to sound hard and brutal” mentality.
Now the album itself is already out a few months but this is a new special “tour edition” witch contains a DVD witch has7 “clips” on. Going from live at Graspop metal meeting, music videos and, making of and much more.
But it’s 50/50 They do it well (above average), and I can appreciate this change and music style, but upon hearing the album I miss the older elements witch gave them that extra back in the days to break though and set them apart from other band. I really have a feeling they lost their originality with this one.
Most people will like the album, due to it’s mainstream sound and it’s soft emo/metal songs. But as a fan, you’ll either love it or hate it. Especially due to the fact that most people will already have the album that has been out for some time now

71/100
