Review : CD

The Welsh post-hardcore band Funeral For A Friend (FFAF) surprises us with a double album, on the one hand a sort of greatest hits collection and on the other hand a B-sides compilation.
Disc one contains twelve classic tracks in chronological order and four new songs, including the new single “Wrench”, “No Honour Among Thieves”, “Built To Last” and “Captains Of Industry”. These new tracks are the first recorded with bass player Gavin Burrough.
The twelve classic tracks originate from the two EP’s and the four studio albums FFAF released so far. Couldn’t be left out of this are of course the singles “Juneau”, “Escape Artists Never Die”, “History”, “Into Oblivion (Reunion)”, “Walk Away” and “Kicking And Screaming”.
Disc two contains twenty B-sides compiled by the band, featuring demo’s, covers of Far (“The System”), The Ruts (“Babylon’s Burning”), U2 (“Sunday Bloody Sunday”), Thin Lizzy (“The Boys Are Back In Town”), two acoustic live tracks (“Drive” and “The Art Of American Football”) and a hideous dance remix by Haunts of “Into Oblivion”.
The total of 36 tracks will certainly entertain the fans of this scream/emo outfit, pretty popular in the UK, while the Welshmen are already busy with a new studio album.
After the shows that are planned for July and August 2010, guitar player Darran Smith will leave FFAF. Gavin Burrough will change from bass to guitar and the new bass player will be Richard Boucher.
Could it be that the purpose of this release is to end their contract with Roadrunner Records?
