Review: CD
Hailing from the South of Poland (environment of Tarnowskie Gory), and formed in 2005, Mouga are a love-it-or-hate-it formation with a huge fanbase in especially their home country.
This short new album (about thirty six minutes) was produced at Maq Studio by Jaroslav Toifl – think Division By Zero, Horrorscope, Ador Dorath – and combines a modern experimentation with a straight-forward mentality and lots of catchy melodies. Unfortunately it doesn’t always convince. Some heavier parts are strong and powerful, but a few times the whole seems to fall asleep and that’s sad. And the mainly clean vocals, in the vein of Lostprophets or Coheed & Cambria, nor the harsh Metalcorish throat, aren’t that convincing either, I’m afraid.
Anyway, the combination of Nu Metal, funky Thrashcore, Emo etc gets at its peak within the harsher pieces; the poppy parts sound too ‘average’.
For fans of, let’s say, Fugazi, Skindred, Funeral For A Friend, Korn, Papa Roach, Rootwater, Fall Out Boy or The Mars Volta, but I recommend listening before buying or stealing.
Oh yes, nice album title! Cheers!
60/100
