CD REVIEW Thy Final Pain

Band: Thy Final Pain

Release date: May 1st 2010
Review: CD

The quartet Thy Final Pain (Marc Jüttner-b,v; Sascha Weber-g; Lukas Nicol-d; and Simon Dorn-g,v – some of them involved with bands as, for example, Debauchery or Dual Mentality), formed in 2007, returns with … Of Life And Death, their second album with duration of about forty six minutes. And immediately it gets clear: Thy Final Pain goes back to the purest roots of Death Metal!
As a matter of fact, this album was released last year, yet now it gets re-released in a professional way through STF, a young German label that will release the band’s newest studio recording, which will be called Desire, Freedom And Confusion, later this year (so look out for that review somewhere in early Autumn 2010).
… Of Life And Death is a massive and colossal recording. The very rhythmic and groovy Death Metal varies from slow over mid-tempo to energetically fast, and the whole comes with a monumental sound. Besides, the average quality of the tracks, with thanks to the monstrous compositions and experienced professionalism of each band member, lifts this album up to a level where Bolt Thrower, Grave, Suffocation, Debauchery or Massacre dwell. And in spite of the little variation and the total lack of any experiment or catchy addition, … Of Life And Death never bores. Going back to the roots with such grandeur, it isn’t but a gift. A poisonous one, all right, yet it remains a gift to man.
Simplicity at its best!
