Release date: May 22nd 2010
Review: CD
Trident are a very young yet promising Swedish horde, consisting of a few well-known names from the Swedish Extreme Metal scene: Johan Norman (ex-Soulreaper , ex-Dissection, ex-Runemagick, ex-Decameron, ex-Satanized), Ewo Solvelius (also in Igneous Human, a band that recently released its debut album, Pyroclastic Storms, through Tractor Productions – review posted on April 18th 2010, professionally written by [it]), Tobias Sidegård (Necrophobic, Sin, Bajen Death Cult), Jonas Blom (ex-Runemagick, Grief Of Emerald, Azeazeron), and Alexander Friberg (Juggernaut, Necrophobic, ex-Karneywar). With a mutual passion for the Dark Side of pseudo-religious life, they created World Destruction, which lasts for fifty minutes.
The result is marvellous in all its facets. The sound, perfected with assistance of Andy Larocque and Nico Elgstrand, is rather raw and unpolished, yet firm and overwhelming, and the diversity is huge. The obscure and mainly mid-tempo oriented Black / Death Metal comes with a blaspheme and misanthropic atmosphere, and both artwork and lyrics dwell within the same demonic regions. Both faster and slow pieces have a very Swedish approach, playing on the edge of the old school.
Besides, Trident sort of puts its own mark on the totality. The members cannot ignore the experiences they underwent with their other bands, so one cannot ignore these evident influences; yet the cohesion sounds as if the band members were playing together for years.
For fans of most members’ other (former) bands (like Soulreaper, Necrophobic, Dissection and Karneywar), as well as US-based formations like (early) Morbid Angel, Abysmal Dawn or Council Of The Fallen.
90/100
