Band : Dali’s Liama Raw Is Deal shows an intense brooding mixture of raspy vocals, gloom noisy riffs, crunching rhythms, steady but powerfull drumming and thought-metaphorical lyrical writing channeled through a lethal cocktail of hardcore, hard rock and amp reptile metallic blues. With loose, abrasive riffs and sharp delivery, the title track, “Theocracy” and “Hell no” blast out an incendiary mix of indie, desert rock and hardcore that’s immediately accessible. Tracks such as "Slugman" and "Eve’s navel” show their flawless understanding of a dynamic balance and melody. Guitar lines by Zach Huskey and newcomer Joe Dillon wind and cut, and obviously they owe a great debt to those of Fatso Jetson, Melvins, Groundhogs and Sabbath. Highlights include the ferocious stompers "Grump” and “Syphilization” which entail thumping bass lines by Erica Huskey and screaming guitarsolos. "Always” has a Truly-sounding laid back psych quality via the guitar work. There are other songs that are more dark and haunting, such as the drifting "Blackout" and “Fluids” where the band shifts into a more Magnet’s “Third alternative”-mood with its groovin’, psych quality. And "Always" which features a beautiful interplay of a laid- back loungey rhythm-section and stoney guitars. Raw Is Deal sound wicked (credit must be given to Scott Reeder) and easily urge people to give their eight (?) baby multiple listens. You know what they say: you can never keep a good band down. 91/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
