Gee, this young Nottingham based British band may only have been in excistence since June 2009, but their time to become famous is already now!

Influenced by the likes of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Chariot, Arusha Accord and Psyopus, the foursome of Tom Sears (vocals), Tom Arizmendi (guitar), Jamie Fox (bass, and with a name like that, let’s hope the guy is somewhat of a comedian…or people might not take him seriously – just a laugh, guys!) and Bill Marlies (drums) play an eclectic kind of Technical Metal/ Melodic Grindcore, which, as mentioned in the bio, goes through “…more twists and turns than a Japanese racetrack…”!

The thing is, there may be all time changes and breaks-stops, but the guys dó keep up a certain melody within the separate bits and pieces. Also, they introduce calmer passages in their, regrettably rather short (longest track only 3:12, the calm passage in this song including an uncredited cleanly sung female guest vocal performance) songs. Well, perhaps I’m shooting off at the mouth there! You see, the band’s debut EP only has 3 songs, and it’s not because these 3 all have the calmer passages, that the rest of the band’s material is of the same kind. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see what Galleons’ full-length debut (for which I am already looking out with an incredible amount of anticipation) will bring. At any rate, the band has already earned itself a very positive reputation on the British live circuit, not only playing independent gigs but also doin’ short tours with the likes of The Red Chord, Rolo Tomassiand, and The Arusha Accord. What this band needs now, is a support slot with an established band in the genre on the European continent (I mean, give these guys a batch of a couple of hundreds of the EP to take along on such a tour, and they’ll have most of it sold before they’re halfway through!).

At myspace.com/galleonsuk, you will only find one (untitled) track posted, but there’s also a bit of video footage from a performance at Leister’s Retribution, last October. Check it out, bathe yourself in the band’s wackiness, and go out to your favourite reecord store at the soonest possible moment to get yourself a copy of the EP! Me, I’m already a fan, and I’m hoping to be able to add the band’s full-length debut to my collection before the year is over, darn it! An unconditional addition to my year-lists in the category “Best Debut EPs” it is, beyond the least doubt! I foresee a bright future for these lads…
