Let me start out by saying that fans of Anekdoten, Spirits of the Dead, Big Elf, Oceana Company, Seid and Darxtar are going to love Introduction. Introduction is a Swedish prog rock band that has been around a long time, around 10 years. They amalgamate the influence of 70s classic acts like Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Caravan, Camel or King Crimson with modern sounding rock, without trying to eschew even humorous aspects.

The album opens with the storming “Lemonade for the poor” featuring a strong melody that flows naturally and beautifully. “Firey waltz of ours” gives that relaxing, almost melting feeling. ““The marriage of mr teeth and ms knuckles”  is nothing short of breathtaking. It transitions from its heavy Sab beginning to a slightly calm and equally atmospheric end with a fantastic mellotron solo. The percussion and bass playing of “Merry sherry” bring a lot of action into the song, supplying great rhythm and certainly is a creative highlight. Though the material leans to the prog-side, it just seems that the band is not out to play the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures and symphonic offerings, rather they try to focus more on writing strong, memorable and loose adventurous numbers like “Ither sode”, “The marriage of mr teeth and ms knuckles” and the Dinosaur Jr-esque “Music burn in hell”.  So Introduction never get boring or fall back on clichéd playing or ideas. There is simply TOO much depth here to go into.

Santa Sets Sail For Saturn provides a pleasurable listening experience that fans of psych/ prog rock should enjoy. Introduction explodes in intelligent and intricate prog rhythms and melodies that will blow you away.
