Band : Potential Threat SF Bay Area crossover thrash band Potential Threat SF released their first demo already in 1988, in the early days of the crossover movement. A New Threat Level is not radically different from their debut EP 2.0 (review in 2005), but the production is slightly better and also the style is more consistent. They absolutely do not reinvent bay area thrash, but considering their long history, A New Threat Level can claim the right to sound totally old school. Comparisons have been made to Pro Pain, Vio-Lence, Epedemic, Prong and Apocrypha, so you know where you’re at: moshing, lethal tempo thrash metal songs full of aggression. The frantic run of “Remember the violence”, “Watch it fade away” and “Second to none” manages to catch some attention despite the rather simple style of these tracks. Although a lot of the music is still not too memorable even after several listenings, the overall impression is fairly positive and makes you want to get back to the album every now and then. But most of the time you simply cannot help feeling that something is missing, and it's not just due to the shortage on guitar solos. 80/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
