CD REVIEW Psycho Virginteen

Release date : 2009
Release : (3-track) demo cd-R

Well, to say that Belgian Garage Rock quintet Psycho  Virginteen goes about somewhat sparingly with the info they give out about themselves, may be the understatement of the year…but here’s what I was able to find (from the info sheet they sent along with the demo EP, from their MySpace page, and some additional usage of common sense): members are singer Dashboard Dave, guitarists Martin and Jeff James, bassist Trixx, and drummer D77. No idea when they started the band (and if indeed this is still the original line-up), nor which town they call their basis (the new EP was recorded in Oudenaarde – almost 90 kms West from Brussels – and mixed in Heist-Op-Den-Berg – 35 kms from Brussels in NE direction), but I do know the members have a past in several genres (extreme sub-genres of Metal, and Rock) excelling 60 years of combined experiences!

In August 2009 the guys got together with Do De Vos (singer for Southern Voodoo and occasional specialist Garage Rock recencist for Belgian magazine Rock Tribune) at Oudenaarde’s Catfight Entertainment studio, where they recorded the 6 tracks for their debut promo-EP. 6 tracks? Yeah, the 3-track affair we were sent is apparently a promo for the demo, which would indeed have 6 songs! The guitarists display a nice twin guitar play interaction, which is just as well, because singer Dave ain’t exactly a diva! Still, his screamed style is exactly what’s needed for this kind of Rawk ‘n’ Roll…and he gets nice backings from at least one of the other guys.

If you’re into Garage Rock, dó check out the 3 songs (one of ‘em not featured on our promo copy of the demo EP) posted at myspace.com/psychovirginteen. If you’re a concert organizer, it may be interesting to know that the band is seeking to play gigs starting the first of February.

80/100
