Review : CD

Stake Off The Witch’s  debut album Medusa is not a bad album. However, it's a total standard album brewing on old ideas, which have been heard many times on records. There are plenty groovin’ cuts on this album to satisfy the average riff rock fan, but Stake Off The Witch have a too classic approach towards this kinda rock music and don't dare any risks, making this an ideal album for music traditionalists.

First of all is their female singer, Steph. She is alright, in the sense that she can sing, but the flat tone, nonexistent range and nondescript vocal style lend nothing to the music. The twin guitars are also rather uninviting and surely do not add much to the proceedings. They are just kind of there, as a rock necessity, but their presence is underwhelming. You expect to be at least lifted a bit by some six string antics, yet the efforts just fall flat and are uninteresting. The songwriting is kept at a minimum. Though there's lots of catchy hooklines, a lot of stuff is so simple, that you grow tired of the songs before they really get you in ecstasy.

Medusa is an agreeable product, but due to the immense competition on the market, it is questionable if there are many people willing to invest more time into Stake Off The Witch.
