Band: We Are The Ocean We Are the Ocean is a 5-piece post hardcore band based in London and in Harlow, Essex England. The band was originally known as Dead But Still Dreaming with Dan Brown (screaming vocals) and four others. Later on, Jack Spence joined the band after they lost their original bassist. When the band broke apart due to differences, Dan and Jack carried on and went searching for new members. In 2007 they founded new brothers in arms with Liam Cromby and Tom Whittaker, and still went to play under the original name. At this point the band had problems finding and keeping a lead guitar player and after a couple line up changes founded what they wanted and needed in Alfie Scully and changed the band name to We Are The Ocean. Although not very well known, the band has gotten popular in the UK due to Internet and Myspace promotion. So we couldn’t wait very long for a CD. Although I’m not really in to Post-Hardcore, this album made my day. It’s loud, it’s heavy but has calm and epic spaces, it’s melodic. Anything you want from a band and an album. This is the kind of music I can imagine myself head banging to at a live concert, especially to song nr.4 called “Confessions” which has a bit of stoner feeling to it and turns into an epic scream piece. It’s not art or groundbreaking, but what this band does, they do it very, very well. 93/100 Jeroen. |
