Band: Lower Hell Two years after the debut album Asphyxia, released through Demons Run Amok, Lower Hell return with an even more aggressive and overpowering album. And in case you liked that debut full length, then you will certainly appreciate this second effort too, because Hellevator goes on, excuse me, Hellevator goes further where Asphyxia ended. As a matter of fact, first of all, the sound is as sharp and pounding. This, of course, has to do with the band working for the second time with producer Patrick Hagman (guitar player of Fear My Thoughts). Result: an uncompromising, sludgy approach within the sound, and that’s rather sweet in its most sarcastic definition, isn’t it? Musically, Hellevator brings a fast and technical form of Thrash / Death Metal with a strong Hardcore-attitude in the vein of the debut. These modern tracks rock, these dirty tracks roll. Besides, all of them come with a catchy groove, and the whole isn’t but an invitation for a hellish headbang-session. And what’s more, Lower Hell adds some extras. What about some keyboards and (semi-) acoustic guitars? Atmospheric guitar solos? Some soundscapes? Punkish old school madness? Grinding blast-explosions? Just playing loud will bother after a while, but with these additions, and the variation (in tempo and melody), fifty three minutes isn’t too long at all. Over the top, yet not exaggerated… 80/100 Ivan Tibos. |
