Band: Conan’s First Date Conan’s First Date comes from the city of Szentendre and as founded in late 2008. Influenced by various, CFD delivers a modern, catchy, dynamic but yet brutal, complex and traditional metal music involving elements from death and thrash as well as from stoner and southern rock (so no worries if you think that their name sounds like a name for an emo band). The very first record of the band was self-made and gained success around the Hungarian rock and metal media. This record called “Effigies” consist of two different materials including the first recording, ‘The Werewolf Rising’. So you have some old songs on one side and some recent material on the other. Although not that original, it is cool to see the bands progress over some time. And as a matter of fact it does show a big growth. For a self produced album, the sound and producing level is of a high standard, but still containing that rawness of the stoner influences. For me this is one of the best albums I heard this year so far. What could be a downer for some is the big genre changes. Although the whole picture works, you sometimes have a big differences when the band changes from stoner rock to death metal vocals. But this does keep you interested and listening. This is for fans of bands like Machine Head, BLS, Soilwork, Entombed, Nevermore or Pantera. Peter. |
