Something of which many bands dream of is playing as the direct support of heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. Most of them can only dream of this, while others have already lived that dream. This is also what has happened to Made Of Hate. When Iron Maiden played in their home country, Poland, Made Of Hate was chosen to support Iron Maiden.
Almost three years after their debut, Bullet In Your Head, AFM Records released their second full-length called Pathogen. The previous guitar player, Radek, has changed places with Mike, the vocalist. Radek now takes care of the vocals, whereas Mike handles the guitars. The only vocal contributions of Mike are the backing vocals, that’s it.
The main topic of the new album is the point of view and feelings of serial killers, along with trying to understand their twisted thoughts. We can say that this is a classical subject for a metal album.
The label describes their music as power, thrash metal, but I would rather describe it as melodic death metal. Only Radek’s voice sounds a bit thrashy.
It took Made Of Hate a long time to record the album, as the band wanted perfection, without losing the charm of its first record. Russian Roulette, I Can’t Believe and Lock’n’Load are beautiful examples of that. Friend and You, Departed have a very distinctive rhythm. That’s because of the genius use of the guitar. I think Lock’n’Load is the most remarkable song on Pathogen. At times, it even sounds like a happy folk songs instead of a melodic death metal track.
The best song on the album is the last one, Questions, just because it has a very impressive rhythm and melody.
So, if you are into power metal or melodic death metal, you should definitely check out this album. It’s not really innovating, but it is worth checking out.
