Review: MCD/ EP

The Alkmaar, Holland, based trio (Ton - d; Guido - g/ v; Sicco - b/ v) del-Toros (please observe the notation with small ‘d’ and capital ‘T’?) was formed almost two years ago (end of 2008). A few months after the start of the band, a first demo got recorded with Pop Rock producer Erik Drost, known from his work with Legendary Pink Dots or Phantom Four. That very same year, del-Toros got selected to join the Popronde, a music contest in Holland, where the band wraps the audience easily.

In 2009 the band did enter the AG Music Studio with Theo de Jong (The Shavers) to record an EP, which has a much more professional sound in comparison to the demo, yet with a nice dose of dirtiness. Opener “Sweet” sounds as a Motörhead-meet-Mötley Crüe-going-Hardrock, while “Ukraine Candy Cane” is much more catchy and mainstream. Songs like “Dopesick or One Roof” wink to a Rockabilly approach, and a track like Troublemaker gets closer to an energetic Punk/ Surf sound.

Twenty two minutes of catchy Rock with a sixties mentality…

70/100
