Somewhere between Sleep, Mastodon, Entombed, Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost, Solace and Yob lies Buenos Aires based, Dragonauta and their CD Cruz Invertida.  Dragonauta’s style is an expansive, staggering palette of occult, NWOBHM, sludge, stoner and doom metal and a few other things I can't quite put my finger on at the moment. More groovy than your old school doom and also more sludgy and more variation in pace, Cruz Invertida is a fascinating audio excursion.

Dragonauta’s third full-length release kicks into "Muerte y destruccion" with an up-tempo slice of Cathedral-esque brilliance. Eerie at times, doomy at others and very brutal when the time is right and featuring vocals that are balanced between gritty, shouting and ghoulish, “World of violence”  is one of the high lights. Although new vocalist Jose Topo Armetta can hardly be considered a great vocalist his expressive style fit the Dragonauta-sound perfectly.  Both guitarists Daniel Libedinsky and Alejandro Gomez shine on “Montanas de sangre” and “Black venom” showingoff their ability to write great melodies and unorthodox harmonies, but are ripping and tough at the same time. Maybe they have inject more blistering guitar solos next time. Banging with a sharp aggressive edge most of the time, the musical quality is there in every guitar twist and rhythm they use, as the title track is easy to get into and really catchy indeed. “Poseidon’s blood” and “God half blind” weave through a maze of weird breaks and creepy, buzzing guitar tones, but at the same time these tunes cover familiar doom ground with drummer Ariel Solito and bassist Topo holding down a solid rythym while tremendous guitarleads lay a wall of sound down on top. The Yob-ish ”Lux de marte” go from intricate and ringing to heavy and crushing. Great stuff.

And hopefully we meet each other again on the magic bus to the camping site of Roadburn 2011 (2010 was a blast) or even better at the legendary festival itself.
