With Tomorrow Morning Eels mastermind Mark Oliver Everett puts an end to a trilogy of works that started with last year's Hombre Lobo, with the second installment titled End Times released early 2010 (a review by yours truly of the latter album can be found posted 24/02/2010, the first done by colleague Jeroen was posted 25/08/2009). In retrospect the difference between the albums also becomes somewhat apparent, because where part one saw Everett into a combustive Garage Rock style, where part two was more stripped-down acoustic...and part three sees Everett turning usually depressive and cold electronics (atmospheric and sometimes Ambient keyboards and piano, drum machines, loops and samples) into a warm celebration of the life he's in at this moment.

I have to say, I didn't expect too much of the album when giving it its first listening session. But the session was done while I was sitting down with a book on a late afternoon...and good golly, I had the album turning in my pc for hours on end. Of course, in the end one can't help noticing some of the songs for their lyrics (“This Is Where It Gets Good”, “I Like The Way This Is Going”)...but the album exhumes an overall positivity that simply cannot be denied, and I found myself enjoying the offered material more and more. By the way, if you're quick enough about it, you can get a couple of listening sessions yourself, because at the moment the complete album is available for streaming at myspace.com/eels (remember, the band did the same with End Times).

I won't go as far as to add Tomorrow Morning to my year-lists, but I hàve absolutely enjoyed (still am at the moment of writing) this album...and I guess I might even get back to it, given the off-chance of finding myself with some time off when in a calmer mood.

90/100

Tony.
