Review: CD

Hammer Of Hate is one of Finland’s most magnificent labels, with some of Finland’s best underground (Black) Metal projects on its rooster. Yet the Suomi only-mission has come to an end, and it’s a wise decision to open the borders. The first contract with a foreign band was made in Russia: Evangelivm.

This project consists of I and II, respectively musician and lyricist / vocalist, and debuts with a six-tracker that clocks just above half an hour. The whole had been mixed and mastered at the famous Swedish Endarker Studio (Marduk, Panchrysia, Sargatanas Reign etc) and comes with a rough, unpolished sound, which fits perfectly to the obscure and raw mid-tempo Black Metal. Some might find it too ‘primitive’, yet this kind of production is what it’s all about when it comes to the glorious essence of blackness. The compositions are fine, even though they lack of originality. Though, Evangelivm come with an own approach – a Nordic-oriented sound that does not just breathe Scandinavian or Baltic air… The riffs are rather melodic than technical, and the rhythm section is fiercely supporting with overpowering grimness. The filthy vocals are oppressing and full of deepness, supporting with overwhelming grimness. Besides, Nightside Of Eden dwells within old school spheres, yet at the same time the whole has a certain Post-Black spirit too (going for, especially, the faster parts) – an inevitable Endarker-character?

Highly recommended to fans of North-American, Scandinavian, West-European, Slavic and Baltic (…) Underground Supremacy!
