Band: Kingfisher Sky Kingfisher Sky is a Dutch gothic/progressive rock band from the Hague, South Holland. founded by Ivar De Graaf in 2001 after having left his successful other Gothic band called Within Temptation to pursue his own musical interests. Ivar got to know Judith, and the 2 of them started recording songs in their home studio in 2005. A record deal with Suburban Records followed in 2006 and bass player Eric Hoogendoorn joined the band first. Next to join the line up was guitarist Daan Janzing and George van Olffen (keyboard) followed soon after. Later on a second guitar player was founded in Edo van der Kolk to complete the band for the time being and in 2007 the first album was recorded and released, witch was released a year later in America. And with that kind of success another album couldn’t be that far of and so the band released a record in September 2010. The record is combination of gothic, melodic and folk elements. Not really something for everyone and is definitely nothing like Within Temptation. It’s more of a combination of Lacuna Coil, Leaves’ Eyes and Nightwish. This combination isn’t something new or groundbreaking but the band knows how to bring it and so making it a very accessible record. The thing about this album is that it’s more of a passive listening album. It doesn’t have 5 long minutes of insane shredding, no it’s more simple background music. Don’t get me wrong the songs work and are putted well together but it’s more easy listening music what can be a nice change from al the insane brutal shredding out there. 75/100 Jeroen. |
