Review : CD

After their debut Monstertone Dutch based heavy rock ’n’ roll outfit Monstertone are finally back, this time with their second full length titled Thrills, Pills And Kills.

I guess they’re into the stoner- and classic rock sounds in fairly equal doses, and this CD lives up to each. All the trademarks are here. Ringing harmonies, hook-heavy riffs and driving rhythms. The boogie riffs are there, and so is the C.O.C./AC/DC/Ted Nugent-ish grooviness, wrapped in a solid production. Yeah, the songs are good, but they all follow the same formula and as the record goes on it starts to get a bit boring. Vocalist Jeff Van Dokum has a hit or miss voice that does not really have the charisma or range to carry an entire disc with so many songs.
