Band: Nicht The French project was created in October 2009 by musicians Eudes and Laetitia, shortly after joined by friend Iggy Sharpe Blake as vocalist, who did write some songs for Nicht before. At this moment, the trio is recording their self-produced debut album, yet recently the White Wasteland Studio recorded and mastered EP PART 1 Catalepsy Sinks was released as some kind of teaser to the upcoming studio full length. Spanish label Lugga Music takes care of a proper distribution and promotion in Europe and North-America. PART 1 Catalepsy Sinks opens with the instrumental intro “Paralysis”, a short acoustic piece, followed by “Out Of Reach”, which is an energetic Goth-Death Metal song with a blackened grunt and some harmonious clean dual vocals, both female (by guest singer Sombr I Yahn) and male (the latter balancing on the edge of complete boredom and dullness, I’m afraid). Electronic elements, some adaptations in song structure and tempo, a vibrant sound and a misty atmosphere, rather catchy… “Last Breath” then, with clean and screaming vocals, a rather slow tempo and a neo-symphonic intermezzo with violins, piano, pretty modern-approached. “Hope”, consisting of whispers, floating classical female (soprano) voices and a rough throat, flat guitar lines, a slow tempo, yet with a (sudden) acceleration, not guitar-driven only either yet mainly Gothic-inspired in its emotions. And so on, and so on. “Room 19” is a track apart, a short sample with no surplus??? As you can conclude: almost superfluous, except for Goth Metal fans with money and collection lust… 68/100 Ivan Tibos. |
