Band: Nocturnal Blood Nocturnal Blood from the US are a project by Ghastly Apparition. The one-man band debuted with a demo (on cassette), called True Spirit Of Old, in 2008 (Kampf Records), followed by two 7”EP’s (vinyl all right), Nocturnal Crucifixions (Black Shit Noise Productions, 2009) and Invocation Of Spirits (on Hells Headbangers Records, released earlier this year as picture-EP), and a split-12”EP, Imperial Impurity, with Sanguis Imperem (Nuclear War Now! Productions, 2010). The debut mini-album Devastated Graves – The Morbid Celebration has a duration of twenty six minutes and consists of seven titles. These creations bring an old school-oriented form of Death/ Black Metal, and ‘old school’ here stands for both compositions and sound – the latter being dirty, sleazy, raw and pulsing, yet sometimes too primitively produced, unfortunately. And more: old school does not mean nineties, it means (early) eighties, the roots of all Evilness. The songs, with a mainly lightning-fast tempo (yet with some extremely slow passages too), are brutal, merciless, unrelenting, blaspheme and demonic. The instrumentation is limited to a strict basic, getting rid of any modernised gadget or false, over-mixed addition. Primal terror it is indeed… Highly recommended to fans of Blasphemy, Profanatica, Impurity, Abruptum, Beherit / Goat Vulva, Autopsy, Bestial Warlust, Black Witchery, Demoncy, Von, Goatlord, Masacre etc. 87/100 Ivan Tibos. |
