Band : Pure Reason Revolution While Pure Reason Revolution isn't going to tear down the barriers of rock, electronic and pop with Hammer And Anvil, I'm certain this CD, the third full length by this band, will find a reasonable amount of appeal to those who like their lite danceprogpoprock hybrid. Pure Reason Revolution is a love-it or hate-it proposition when it comes to indie rock . Their style is easily identifiable as uniquely their own and is a intriguing cocktail of Depeche Mode, Porcupine Tree, Chemical Bros, Soulwax, New Order, Roxy Music, Nine Inch Nails, Kraftwwerk,… At times the band appears to be doing just a bit too much in trying to squeeze everything into the mix, but fans of over the top music might not mind at all. The major point of criticism and possibly the thing PRR needs to focus on improving in the future are the lead vocals of Jon Courtney. He tries an approach that is similar to Placebo’s Brian Molko, only he lacks much of the power necessary.. When you peel off the electronic layers it comes down to the songs and Pure Reason Revolution doesn't disappoint with these songs. I'll just hope the next time around they can work on emphasizing the cool guitars and Floyd-ian passages and lighten up on the dance aspect. Hammer And Anvil may be different but it is still a rocking disc from Pure Reason Revolution. Go explore! 80/100 Cosmicamsseur. |
