Band: The Burning The Burning is a Danish metal band from Jyllands capital Aarhus and was founded in 2005 by Johnny Haven (vocals) and Rasmus Normand (guitar) Rasmus had played in Panzerchrist before and later with Johnny Haven in progressive metal band Awedge. Dissatisfied with the more melodic direction of the former band, the two decided to form a hard hitting metal band, and The Burning was born. Long time friend of Johnnys Thue Moller (bass) was recruited and Tobias Host (drums) soon followed. Through heavy tour activity. The Burning quickly became a force to reckon with in the Danish metal scene. 2007 saw the release of their debut album Storm the walls (produced by Jacob Hansen) and a tour with Dawn of Demise who are good friends of the band followed. Later on the band went on a European tour with Illdisposed. In 2008 The Burning wins the prestigious award as "Best Live Band of the Year" and last year they released their second album witch leaded the way to this years third release. The band describes their own music as a combination of trash, death and groove metal. This is true and can be heard on this latest record that (riff wise) does make you remember early Machine Head and/or Pantera style. But the album is more varied than just a combination of old school elements and bands. There are some less heavy rock elements to be found on the record (title track for example) and for a metal band the vocals are varied. Don’t get me wrong it are still harsh and brutal vocals but Johnny Haven has a wide spectrum of possibilities for his voice. The album doesn’t bring something new (because its old school trash and groove elements) but the guys do know how to perform, bring and sell it. Definitely worth checking out, even if it was for just checking out the awesome intro that is just so funny to listen to. 86/100 Jeroen. |
