Review : CD

Don’t get me wrong, this is competent stoner oriented doom metal, and I can't point to anything seriously wrong with it, but it is just missing the spark that makes it stand out from every other doom metal album I've heard in the last decade. This is recommended only for those who just can't get enough of this style of Sabbath meets C.O.C. music. So what you get is a grooving metal record by three Norwegians that incorporates a good amount of bluesy 70s beats and energy. But then you'll also get a good deal of Metallica-like guitar work and melodies. Let's not forget how much Metallica was influenced by down-tuned groove music, as can be heard on the band's Load and Re-Load, and the first one especially. Overall Volume II does nothing all that original to set it apart from many other bands. It's not a great volume by any means nor is it horrible, just falls into that tedious average medium that will leave this to fall into the cracks as the year passes by.
