Band: Valoton The Finnish band Valoton is a rather mysterious one, at least when it comes to the members. Even though these guys act anonymously in Valoton, they seem to have a long history in extreme and demonic Metal. Valoton recently recorded its debut Beastificate, mixed by J. Kulomaa at MSTR Studio, with vocal guest contributions by IkiHorros and nobody else but Molestor Kadotus (of Calvarium/ Trotzreich / Anal Blasphemy/ Baptism/ Black Priest Of Satan/ …-fame). And within these spheres Valoton’s symphonies dwell… The fierce tracks are based on artillery rhythms (listen to these machine gun drum patterns – the drums, by the way, were done by session musician Tuomo Latvala, especially known from different Death Metal acts) and apocalyptic undertones (like the somewhat industrialised sound and sulphuric vocals). The rather primitive and nihilistic approach gives the whole a sadistic underground spirit, which strengthens the obscurity and morbidity behind the blasphemous and misanthropic glorification of Evil. At the same time, and that’s because of the mechanical riffing and old school attitude, Beastificate must be one of the most uncomfortable and asphyxiating albums from 2010. The few (semi) acoustic parts don’t give shelter or rest, not do they come with an epic Nordic pride; on the contrary, they do cover these parts with a haunting veil of depression and despair. 87/100 Ivan Tibos. |
