Band: Vitsaus Finnish duo Vitsaus, consisting of Inho (v, g; also in Syöpä) and Vainaja (d, g, b; Neutron Hammer), signed to Hammer Of Hate a couple of years ago (with, for example, the release of the sublime yet too-hard-to-get/find/steal mini-album Ruumiivaellus), one of the ultimate labels to promote the Finnish underground Black Metal scene. Like most bands or projects on this label’s rooster, this stuff lacks of mainstreamity or commerciality, which makes this material sometimes rather difficult to find, unfortunately – but the future will bring promotional opportunities to both the label and its signings, and that’s why this Vitsaus-debut needs, and deserves, the necessary attention. …going for all future releases through Hammer Of Hate, evidently. Sielunmessu consists of five tracks with duration of thirty five minutes. The core floats within the same regions as many Scandinavian and North-American (Nordic) Black Metal bands and projects, with the same icy and grim sound, and a comparable obscure, warlike atmosphere. I say: hurray! No, Sielunmessu does not renew. No, this album isn’t original at all. No, it does not matter at all. This stuff can be acceptable, and in this duo’s case, IT IS! The average quality of the songs easily equals, or even exceeds, many colleagues from all over the rotting globe. This is goat-worship with a sardonic grin on one’s face, this material shows its middle finger without hesitation, laughing away man’s stupidity of being existent. And therefore it is a necessity! A weapon against humanity, hail, hail, hail and hate-hammering! One (stupid) remark: the sound is too “tin box”-ish...under-productions sucks too, you see… 87/100 Ivan Tibos. |
