Band: Withershin Sweden’s Withershin were formed in Stockholm in 2006 and about one year later one, this formation offered its first morbid spawning, Chaos Discipline. After the band recruited new vocalist Nine, they could sign to American Canonical Hours, and in 2008 this label released the band’s debut full length, Ashen Banners, which was recorded at Endarker Studio, known for e.g. Marduk, IXXI, Sargatanas Reign, Ragnarok etc. A European tour (with Diabolical) followed, and these live appearances showed a firm, ferocious band. At the end of 2009, Withershin entered the studio again. This time they entered Necromorbus Studio (Vemoth, Damnation Army, Valkyrja, Ofermod, Merrimack etc). The new mini-album, The Hungering Void, lasts for a saddening fifteen minutes, but I won’t be ungrateful (at least not all the time). And without any doubt it continues the path which was taken as from the very beginning. The Hungering Void brings a very, very Swedish form of fast Black Metal with nothing renewing to add. No problem in case the quality is satisfying. In this band’s case the average quality is sufficient, nothing more, nothing less either. As a matter of fact, it is such a typical recording that couldn’t have been registered anywhere else but at Endarker or Necromorbus, or same-minded studios. For fans of: Watain, Dissection, Necrophobic, Damnation Army, Setherial, Thulcandra, Marduk, Valkyrja and Unanimated. 85/100 Ivan Tibos. |
