CD REVIEW Rick Springfield

Band : Rick Springfield
Album title : Venus In Overdrive - Live Rockford
Label : Frontiers Records
Distributor : Frontiers Records - Rough Trade Benelux
Release Date : 26/02/2010
Release : CD

Frontiers have rereleased this album, which was originally released in 2008 by the now defunct label "Angelmilk Records", but to put the cherry on the cake Frontiers released it with one bonus track and a concert DVD "Live In Rockford".  I cannot comment on the DVD however, since I only got the CD.
So let's focus our attention on the CD instead.
Well to start with it took Rick, together with his bass player Matt Bissonette an astonishing 32 days to record this album.  That's quite a long time, especially if you take into account that the music on this CD lies in the same vein as previous work by Rick, although maybe with a slightly more modern sound to it.
And no, the opening track "What's Victoria's Secret" has absolutely nothing to do with the famous lingerie brand, but it's a good song.  As a matter of fact the complete album is very good, with as always a good mix between rock, pop, blues...  Rockers are mixed with ballads, fast paced songs with slower.

This album even debuted at No 28 on the Billboard chart in the USA, the highest chart debut position one of Rick's albums got in the last 20 years.
A must buy for fans of Springfield, and for anyone out there who still cares for melodic rock.
