Band : Ken’s Dojo Ken’s Dojo is the solo project from Ken Ingwersen, the guitarist in Street Legal since the late nineties. Before joining Street Legal however he played in various other bands, the first band he joined being a band called Limelight (not the same band as the Limelight who released an album with an horrendous green (limegreen…) coloured sleeve in 1981 on the Avatar or Future Earth record label), later he also played in Evenrude, after that he formed a band called Raggs, ending his career before Street Legal in a band called Speed. On this, his first ever solo album, he got the aid of some of the rock industry’s most famous names, like Glenn Hughes, Ken Hensley (ex-Uriah Heep), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), to name but a few of them. Musically it’s a rock album, but with a penchant towards melodic rock and even pop (for instance the title song, sung by Chesney Hawkes is more a pop tune with rock influences than a real rock tune); Best songs on this album are “I Surrender”, a brilliant ballad sung by the one mr. Glenn Hughes, and “Come Alive” – the info provided with the CD doesn’t mention who’s the vocalist on this song. Besides the songs with lyrics, there are also some instrumental tracks on the album. Now you know I’m not that big a fan of instrumental tracks, but just listening to “El Recreo” reminds me of the eighties series Miami Vice which featured a lot of instrumental tunes by Jan Hammer. It surely is an album with a lot of variation, which might not sound as a surprise, given the many different vocalists that take part in it. It might not become a big hit though, since it’s one of the many releases in our genre, but if you’ve got a few quid to spare I might recommend giving this a listening to 82/100 Erik Morren. |
