Band : Dungen Despite the undeniable talents of guitarist Reine Fiske, fresh drummer Johan Holmegard and bass player Mattias Gustafsson, it seems apparent that Dungen is pretty much personified by singer/composer Gustav Ejstes. Dungen’s music depends so much on his talents that it is apparent the band would not exist without him. Their fifth studio album also skims the boundaries between progressive and folk rock while remaining in a territory all their own. Skit I Allt is an impressive collection of ten 3-4 minute terrific songs that highlight the band's impressive talents as musicians and songwriters. Again, all the lyrics are sung in the band's native Swedish. Depending on your point of view, that can be either a plus or a minus. For me, a plus because it gives the band's music an exoticness and mystery that might otherwise not be there Yes, they're still as eccentric as ever, and the music is challenging and deeply strange in a beautiful sort of way, but they've also refined their sound. Skit I Allt never stops surprising you throughout its entire running time and creates an extremely melodic yet bold and adventuresome musical tapestry. Dungen have always been one of those bands that does things the way they think they should be done, not the way they think will sell the most albums. 92/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
