Review : CD

This is the first full cd release from Traveling Circle who hails from the big Apple, and is one of the best and most original contemporary psych bands of recent years.

This is an album to get into over repeated listening. It isn’t a crawling inside your brain psychedelic freak out, but the melodies, voices and harmonies will get to you in the end. From the vocal structures to some of the more psychedelic elements there is a lot of influences from The Nugget period (66-68) in their music, but with more of a punch, especially in the guitar department thanks to Dylan Maiden who also deal with the clean, but beautiful vocals. It starts off with pulsating bass lines and a twangy guitar riff of “Cylindrical time”. This is an eerie composition that spins and vibrates. Standout tracks, include the haunting “Note drops”, “Cloak my trove” with adittion of organ and cello, “Bang twig and stone” with a fuzzy guitar solo and “Somethings” which I find myself hitting the repeat button on this song more than ever.

With such a strong first release, I'm very interested to see where this band goes from here. This album is a very safe buy for those into psych and sixties rock..
