Band: Battalion Lately, it seems that trash metal and especially 80’s trash metal is making a revival between the older bands and more younger and recent bands seem to turn this way either. As a trash metal fan myself, I can only smile and be happy with these recent events, but of course you also get bands that try and fail. Battalion is a rather unknown band and seems like they wish to stay that way because although they have a Myspace page, they have no info they like to pass on to possible fans and interested people (maybe they want to stay underdogs like their cd title implies). Now the only thing you can learn from that page is that the band was formed around 2006 and that this is their debut album.
Their debut album is 50/50 its not bad for a debut album, but it lacks power and musicianship to keep up with others in the genre. There are some fine melodies and harmonies on it but give the feeling like you heard them in another song from another band. But what really made me glad were songs “Defenders” and “Stalingrad” witch have a progressive build up and that these guys just didn’t make 11 fast loud songs. Unfortunately this is just an average album that will make no average metal lover appreciate or even pick up a copy off, but this more for real trash metal fans. 67/100 Jeroen. |
