Perris Records Sampler February 2010. As if one mp3-sampler with no less than 8 “new” releases (actually, there were 2 re-issues involved, right) wasn’t enough (check review of Perris Records Sampler January 2010), the label decided to bring a bunch of older releases back under the attention of press and other media. Bands involved are, in alphabetical order, Adrenaline Factor (2007 release), Ballbreaker (Nov. 2009 release), Beautiful Creatures (2006 album), Blind Alley (2007 release), Blind Date (early ‘90s release), Dust And Bones (2008 album), Roxx (2004 album) and Stampede Queen (2005 album), and it so happens I reviewed half of ‘em when they were first put under our attention (check below for posting dates). As in the January sampler, I’m using the order as on the CD! -------------------------------------------- Been there, done that…review was posted 25/03/2006. For rating, check the review. More info/ updates to be found (I hope) at (www.) perrisrecords.com and/or (www.) myspace.com/beautifulcreatures. Do they still exist, I wonder? -------------------------------------------- Again, one that’s done…check the review posted 25/03/2007. Updates & audio to be found at (www.) myspace.com/adrenalinefactor! -------------------------------------------- Yo, finally something for me to write, although… Personal comments : Feel-good Bluesey Rock with a Metal tingue, in the vein of the above mentioned. Find more iinfo & audio at (www.) myspace.com/stampedequeen! 85/100 -------------------------------------------- N°3 in the “Been There, Done that”-series, albeit an album sent to us through the intermediary of TSM/SLW Promotions. Find the review posted in the TSM/SLW special posted 13/12/2009. More info? Want hear music? Visit (www.) myspace.com/dustandbonesroxxx. Originally released through the Monkey Bone Music imprint, by the way! -------------------------------------------- From the info sheet : “Ballbreaker returns with a platter of all new Rock ‘n’ Roll. This new offering is packed full of Hard Rockers, played the only way you would expect it played. Down, Dirty and in your face, with the release of Daddy Long Legs. The traditional backbone of Rock is in the heartbeat of Ballbreaker bringing you fast riffs and thumping rhythms. Vocals are sounding like Brian Johnson (AC/DC) and Tom Keifer (Cinderella). Ballbreaker is featured in Rocknation issue 13 newspaper, the CD is now available worldwide.” Personal comments : Always dangerous to make comparisons to celebs, when that is based on a passing moment. Personally, I don’t hear any Johnson in here! Okay, so the guy doés go into a high pitch here and there, but I don’t hear any of that specific Johnson in it! Still, he’s good in his own right, and versatile enough to keep the listener interested too. This is actually the only relatively “recent” release on this sampler! For more info and/or audio, visit (www.) ballbreaker.net. 83/100 -------------------------------------------- From the info sheet : “In the vein of Poison, Pretty Boy Floyd and Motley Crue. Vocalist Joey D. worked with Skid Row for 2 months before Sebastian Bach. Roxx always delivers with a ripping track like “Tell Me” or “Mr. Mean” then takes it a step down with a Bon Jovi/ Skid Row styled ballad called “Give Up Your Heart”.” Personal comments : Band line-up= Joey D’Angeli (vocals), Franky Novello & Randy Ferri (guitars), Mark Scrovan (bass), Marko Socolli (drums). Nice harmony vocal back-ups. Album comes with bonus remix of one of the songs. Geographically, the boys were compleetely “wrong”, based in New York rather than in Glam Rock heaven L.A.! For more info and/ or audio visit (www.) myspace.com/roxxusa. 85/100 -------------------------------------------- From the info sheet : “Formed in Austin, TX in 1988, Blind Date began writing songs, recording and performing in Texas. In 1988 and 1989 they were voted Best Metal/ Progressive Band in San Antonio. They rapidly became a top draw in Austin and San Antonio venues. At the end of 1989 they recorded with engineer John Viehweg who is credited for recording the demo that signed Dangerous Toys to Columbia Records. By the beginning of 1989, all 3 tracks from Blind Date’s demo began receiving spins on local radio stations throughout Texas. The band earned a huge street buzz, and became the supporting act for many major label U.S. touring bands including Vixen, Helix, Saigon Kick, Lynch Mob, Dangerous Toys, and Pariah.” Personal comments : Nice, nice…of the softer type, and lyrically on the romantic side of things rather than a Sleeze approach. Some songs get keyboard backings. Definitely a highlight on this mp3-sampler. Notice the question mark (“?”) behind the release date? Couldn’t, for the life of me, find out when this was released! According to the info sheet, you’ll find more information at (www.) perrisrecords.com (well, forget it!). 87/100 -------------------------------------------- Last installment in the “Been There, Done That” category.
