Hailing from Eugene, Oregon, Parade Of Storms is another entry into the post metal field. Their material is rooted firmly in the post-rock meets metal camp: epic structures, crushing heaviness tempered by wisps of melodic delicacy. The opening track “Fathoms of briny deep” builds from a storm intro into an energetic, psychedelic hurricane.  The instrumental “The descent of the falcon” is a real stunner, with a Red Sparrowes-vibe and some lovely David Gilmour-like playing, “Confronting the king” stands out quite well and is generally engaging with unexpected, but nice pedal steel guitarwork.  The NeurIsis/Pink Floyd influences are strong on the songs “ The descent of the falcon” and  “Confronting the king” thatcomes at you with in your face dynamics and driving bea(s)ts with very melodious guitarwork.Despite the short length of this disc (35 minutes) there’s enough sounds cascading throughout tracks like “Surfacing” , the aggressive “Tell Your God To Ready For Blood”and “Fathoms of briny deep”  to keep your ears occupied for quite a long time

There are plenty of heavy rock styles on Parade Of Storms’ palette and they manage to mix them quite well for the most part. It's a surprise that these are the band's first five songs. If this is only the beginning, then those who keep up with this band are most likely going to be in for some very pleasant surprises.

85/100

Review : Split EP

A pleasant surprise is their longest song “Assassin” on a camouflage splatter-effect split-vinyl EP which is more than a brilliant follow up to the recent self titled album. Parade Of Storms sound incredible and manage to squeeze one long dirge into its thick grooves. “Assassin” doesn't let up and nearly twenty minutes goes by in a flash. This is an absolutely brilliant song.. The Floydian and spooky guitar tone is a trademark of theirs and fully vibrates its way into your psyche. “Assassin” has a special quality to it that brings a kind of soaring feeling to the music and a feeling of being lifted off the ground.

This may not be the best music I’ll hear this year, but it will definitely rank at the top of my unsigned band lists. Check some of their songs at : http://www.myspace.com/yersiniapestismusic

Summers In Kuwait is next, and they are distinctly less impressive. It's screamy barky indie hardcore, I dunno, maybe it's just me, this isn't the music of my taste for certain, and a better judge may give a fairer reflection, but as it is, their three tracks here offer little of interest (even though it does peak during their final track “Cleopatra”).
