Band : Grand Magus Whereas at the beginning of their career Grand Magus played more doom metal, they have evolved quite a bit over the years. Let's state that this CD brings me more or less back to the seventies/eighties, because it's more classical heavy metal. Think of Black Sabbath for the darker atmosphere and heavy riffs, think Judas Priest for the occasional high pitched shriek, as well as for those parts that are sung in a lower range. Is it a bad idea to go back to the traditions. I would like to think it is not, not anyway if you have a very crisp and modern production on the album. As might be expected for a band that brings back the eighties, the artwork of the album also harks back to those times. This is a no-nonsense metal album, highly recommended for all of you whom still love their eighties metal. 90/100 Erik Morren. |
