CD REVIEW Jorn

Band : Jorn
Album title : Dio
Label : Frontiers Records
Distributor : Frontiers Records - Rough Trade Benelux
Release Date : 02/07/2010
Release : CD

Jorn's timing to bring out this album couldn't have been any better.  I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose however, sinceno one except his close relatives and good friends could have known that Ronnie was that close to the end of his life.  No, Jorn had been planning this release a (long) time ago, and Ronnie's death only speeded up the release a bit. There are 13 songs in total on this album, 12 songs we know from Ronnie, all from the Dio era, and 1 new song, an 8 minutes long tribute to Ronnie written by Jorn.

Now are these new versions, sung by Jorn, better as at least as good as the original version.  They are at least as good as the originals.  However you almost cannot compare Ronnie's unique voice, to Jorn's.  Jorn may be a talented vocalist, with a very powerful voice, but he can simply not put the same emotions in his voice like Ronnie could.
Not that therefore it's a bad CD, quite the contrary.  It's quite unusual if you're accustomed to the Ronnie James Dio versions, to hear them being sung by Jorn.
I'd say a must try for Dio fans, and a must buy for Jorn fans.

90/100
